Description
Panel in the sun. Power station in the shade.
The Kalahari 400W Hi-Volt Portable Solar Panel is Flexopower’s highest-output portable solar panel – 400W of field-proven performance built around a Hi-Volt 36.5V architecture that charges faster, runs longer cable lengths and squeezes more out of your MPPT controller than a conventional 12V panel ever could.
Why Hi-Volt matters
Most portable panels run at a nominal 12V (around 18-20V at the operating point), and most power stations cap solar input at 10A – meaning roughly 200W is the practical ceiling before -charging slows down. The Kalahari 400W operates at 36.5V, so it delivers its full 400W without hitting that current cap, giving you a genuinely faster recharge at maximum rated output. The higher voltage also means lower current in the cables, so you lose far less to resistance over long runs – the Kalahari400W holds under 2.6% voltage loss on 4mm² FlexoLink cable up to 20m, and under 2.5% loss on 6mm² cable up to 35m.
Built to last in the field
Shingled solar cell technology wires cells in parallel groups rather than in series, so a shadow across part of the panel doesn’t tank the output of the whole thing – and the tighter cell spacing means more power in a smaller footprint. The panel is encapsulated in Teflon ETFE (Neoflon, by Daikin Japan), the toughest encapsulation available for portable solar in terms of UV resistance and heat tolerance, wrapped in a rigid aluminium frame that resists cell cracking over years of use. It’s IP67 waterproof, individually serial-numbered for full manufacturing traceability, and folds out on collapsible legs that angle the panel 45° for better harvest in low winter sun.
Scale it up
Connect up to 4 panels in series/parallel for up to 1600W combined solar input (within the 200V max system voltage) – two panels in series (800W at 86.2V Voc) is the practical sweet spot for most camping and overlanding setups, while a 2S2P configuration pushes to 1600W for the most demanding off-grid power needs.
